Spartan Stories: Iliana Blagova

What did you study at university and when did you join Sparta Global?

I pursued a degree in Business Studies with Finance at University of West London. I later joined Sparta Global as a Software Development Engineer in April 2023, and subsequently graduated in June of the same year.

How did you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?

Sparta Global presented itself as the ideal career move for me due to its remarkable opportunities for career changers and recent graduates alike. Recognizing the challenges of embarking on a new career path without prior experience, I was drawn to Sparta's commitment to providing a supportive environment where individuals could transition smoothly into the tech industry.

How did you find your training at the Academy, and how did your training prepare you for work?

My experience at the Academy was exceptionally positive. The program boasted a well-structured curriculum, keeping us fully engaged throughout our busy days. Despite the intensity, the learning environment was enjoyable and fulfilling. Each day concluded with a sense of accomplishment and a wealth of new knowledge.

What set the training apart was its practical nature. We had a lot of opportunities to apply our newfound skills to various projects, effectively simulating real-world work scenarios. This approach not only prepared me technically but also boosted my confidence for the real job scene.

Can you tell us about the connections you have built through Sparta?

The relationships I've forged through Sparta have really enhanced my professional journey, making me feel like I belong to a tight-knit and supportive community. Being part of a network where everyone is genuinely invested in each other's success is incredibly motivating. I feel lucky to collaborate with fellow Spartans in my current position.

What is your current position and what does your role consist of?

My role now is Quality Test Analyst in the Home Office. My day typically begins with informative team meetings where we share updates and aid one another. Following this, I delve into my responsibilities, primarily focused on testing the software we've developed to meet our clients' specifications. Each day presents its own set of challenges, particularly given that I serve as the sole tester within our team. While initially daunting, I've found that with time, my confidence and assurance in my role continue to grow steadily.

How have you found your first tech role?

Leading up to my first tech role, I made sure to prepare extensively to hit the ground running. Thankfully, with the support and guidance from Sparta, the transition was smoother than I expected. While there's a lot to absorb and accomplish, I find the dynamic nature of the environment both exhilarating and fulfilling. It's a constant learning curve but being part of such a vibrant atmosphere makes the journey incredibly rewarding.

Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so – why?

I'm absolutely loving my journey in the tech industry! It's like being in a whirlwind of innovation and collaboration, and I'm here for it. Every day brings its own set of challenges, but that's what keeps me excited—it's like solving a new puzzle each time. And you know what's cool? There's always room to flex those creative muscles and try out wild new ideas. It's like being on this never-ending adventure where I'm constantly growing and learning. Overall, it's just an awesome vibe to be a part of, and I couldn't be happier!

Do you feel you now have the passion and skill to carve a long-serving career in technology?

Absolutely! I feel like I've hit my stride in the tech world. With each passing day, my passion for technology grows stronger, and my skills become more refined. I'm fully committed to carving out a long and fulfilling career in this field. The dynamic nature of technology ensures there will always be new challenges to conquer and innovations to explore, and I'm excited to be a part of it for the long haul.

What are you looking forward to doing in your new role?

In my new role as a Quality Test Analyst, I'm excited to dive into testing software systems, collaborating with my team to ensure high standards of quality and functionality. I'm eager to develop efficient test plans and strategies, continuously learn new methodologies, and champion a culture of excellence. Ultimately, I look forward to contributing to the success of our projects and the satisfaction of our customers.

How did it feel to be named Spartan of the Month?

Being named Spartan of the Month was truly an honor and a humbling experience. It felt incredibly rewarding to be recognized for my contributions and dedication to my team and our projects. This recognition served as validation of my hard work and commitment to excellence.
