Abhishek worked in hospitality for more than a decade before seeking a career change after the impact of the Covid pandemic. Faced with a desire to start a role in a new sector, but with little support for personal learning and industry-specific training for career changers thin-on-the-ground, Abhishek finally found an opportunity with Sparta Global. Now working in a successful public sector role, Abhishek was named Spartan of the Month from more than 600 active consultants.
What and where did you study at university?
I worked in the hospitality sector for over 10 years before deciding to switch careers after the COVID pandemic. Seeking a career in IT, I attended a skills boot camp in AWS prior to joining Sparta Global. After encountering several dead ends while trying to learn independently and apply for jobs, I discovered Sparta Global - their Hire, Train, and Deploy model seemed like the perfect fit for me.
How did you find your training at the Academy, and how did your training prepare you for work?
The training at the Academy was fast-paced, and although I initially struggled, the support from my trainer was invaluable. I developed problem-solving skills that have been essential in my current role. Additionally, I had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people at Sparta, from my cohorts and trainers during the training phase to the account managers, HR team, and engagement team.
What is your current position and with what company?
I am currently working as a Site Reliability Engineer for a public sector client. In my day-to-day role, I focus on Azure cloud infrastructure, helping to manage and maintain cloud environments. I also spend a significant amount of time using Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline management, which includes setting up and maintaining pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes for DfE applications. I enjoy getting hands-on with both infrastructure and automation processes, and I am continuously learning new tools and best practices within the Azure ecosystem.
Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so – why?
I'm enjoying working in the tech industry, primarily because of the constant learning and growth the job offers. I also appreciate the problem-solving aspect of my work. Whether it's optimizing a cloud environment on Azure or troubleshooting a deployment pipeline, there's always a new challenge to tackle.
I believe I have both the passion and the growing skills to build a long-term career in the technology sector. Over the past year, I've discovered how much I enjoy working in this field, particularly with cloud technologies like Azure and the automation processes in DevOps. The continuous learning opportunities and the ability to solve complex problems keep me engaged and motivated every day.
How did it feel to be named Spartan of the Month?
