Spartan of the Month October: Natasha Fasanotti

Natasha Fasanotti has always had an interest in technology, pursuing a degree in Computer Science to turn her passion into a career. But when it came to leaving university and picking a path - the options were overwhelming, unclear, and Natasha wanted to find an opportunity that could help her specialise in something that utilised her skills through and through. Joining Sparta Global in February this year, Natasha upskilled in test automation and is now an integral part of a mult-Spartan project team operating in the public sector.

Congratulations for being recognised as one of our Spartans of the Month! You were nominated by your line manager for “knowing exactly what you are doing in your assigned public sector role!

I’m absolutely thrilled that within six months I have been chosen as Spartan of the Month. It is an honour to be recognised and appreciated in this way!

How have these first six months been? Are you enjoying working in the technology industry?

I am thoroughly enjoying working in the tech industry. I have always had a very logical way of thinking and enjoyed learning about new technologies and how we can utilise them. I am enjoying constantly learning new skills and being able to collaborate with smart and talented individuals.

How did you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?

I studied Computer Science at the University of Nottingham. I was always interested in a career in Technology, so university allowed me to further explore my passions.

Sparta Global offered a great training program when I wasn’t sure which path specifically to go into. Sparta allowed me to develop the skills I already had and allowed me to use them to learn more about automation and testing - an area I didn’t know much about. It also taught me great interview skills, which allowed me to secure a role on client side and in a job I am thoroughly enjoying.

That’s amazing to hear! Can you tell us a bit more about how you found the training?

I joined Sparta’s Java Automation course in February 2024 and graduated in April the same year.

It was an intensive 9-week training program which I thought was a great opportunity to develop my technological skills and learn some more about automation specifically. It also offered me a chance to gain the ISTQB certification, which I am very grateful for. Sparta was a great opportunity, and I am glad I chose it to progress into my career.

You are taught by passionate trainers and get to meet fellow hardworking graduates. All while developing and learning valuable skills, it is a great opportunity to kick start your career.

Did you build some good connections too?

I have built loads of great connections through Sparta! I was lucky enough to have most of my cohort join me when we moved to client side, so we have all been able to grow and learn together. There were a lot of ex-Spartans on client side too who have been there to support me through my journey.

Can you tell us a bit more about your role and experience working for a client now?

I am a Test Engineer in the public sector. The team I am a part of work across five different projects, so each day is slightly different depending on the demand from each.

We start with daily standups with our development team to discuss what everyone has been working on and what needs to be tested. Depending on the stand up, we will start testing the relevant project. As an automation engineer, my focus is trying to automate as much of the testing process as possible, creating automations from scratch, editing pre-existing frameworks, or running jobs that have already been created. If automation is not possible, I will help the rest of my team perform manual testing.

Do you feel you now have the passion and skill to carve a long-serving career in technology?

Being put to work on client side has only further developed my passion for technology. This is only the beginning of my career, but I look forward to continuing to develop and gaining even more confidence as I progress.

I look forward to seeing my skills develop. In this short period of time I have already begun making frameworks from scratch and being a lead on some smaller projects. I can’t wait to see what I am able to achieve as I continue working and moving up the career ladder.
