What and where did you study at university? Or did you not study at university at all?
I received a master’s degree in law from University in Poland, but joined Sparta Global in November 2022 to train remotely as a Java Developer. However, I was able to visit Sparta Global’s London office prior to graduating in January 2023.
How did you decide Sparta Global was the right career move for you?
I already had some experience in coding which I had learned through a bootcamp course and self-study, but I struggled to secure a job within the technology industry. I was looking for an opportunity where I could broaden my coding knowledge and receive support when job hunting. After reading some positive reviews about Sparta, I decided to join the Academy. It was a great decision!
How did you find your training at the Academy, and how did your training prepare you for work?
The training was really great. I was impressed by how much information I could learn in just a few months and this boosted my confidence. The best part was being able to work and learn with likeminded people. It gave me a solid foundation of what it means to work and collaborate as a Java Developer.
Can you tell us about the connections you have built through Sparta? How have you found the community to be?
During my training, I met some wonderful people. Both my trainers and trainee colleagues were very helpful and friendly and I was quickly placed with one of Sparta’s clients - alongside four Spartans from my course.
What is your current position and with what company? (We will have to remove the client’s name in edit)
I am currently working as a Junior Java Developer on a project within a large professional services firm.
Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day role. What do you get stuck into?
My day begins with a stand-up, before working on tickets assigned to me and reviewing pull requests created by other developers. One of my favourite aspects of the job is collaborating with others. I really enjoy working together to uncover solutions to problems that occur through listening and sharing ideas with others.
How have you found your first tech role?
I have found my first technology role to be extremely exciting and challenging. My team and I are currently tasked with completing a complex project and it’s allowing me to continue my learning.
Are you enjoying working in the tech industry and if so – why?
I am thoroughly enjoying working in the technology industry. There is plenty of room for growth and I am able to learn new things every day. I am grateful to be a part of such a diverse and interesting team who support and encourage me to use my creativity to problem solve.
Do you feel you now have the passion and skill to carve a long-serving career in technology?
Yes, I believe so. Over the past year I have hugely expanded my knowledge and skillset and I know that, with time and experience, I will continue to grow and learn how to apply my developed skillset.
What are you looking forward to doing in your new role?
I am looking forward to learning and developing new skills to become a better Java Developer and gain more experience and expertise in software development.
How did it feel to be named Spartan of the Month?
I really did not expect to be awarded Spartan of the Month if I am being honest! It feels incredibly rewarding to be appreciated by my client.
Would you recommend Sparta to other graduates and if so – why?
I would definitely recommend Sparta Global to others. I think undergoing training and joining the Sparta community was a great decision and it has helped me land my first job in technology. I have received excellent training and met some fascinating people. I would highly recommend Sparta and I am very grateful for the wonderful community and support I have received.
